Ice Storm – Day 5

Ice Storm – Day 5: The Saga Continues
It’s day five of the ice storm, which means four days without electricity for us. And honestly, I’m not really complaining. We have gas logs, water, food, and batteries—and compared to so many others in our area, we are very lucky. The downed trees in the yard can lay there until spring if need be.
That said, life has definitely slowed to a crawl. I haven’t been able to work on my blog or much of anything else. I briefly considered crafting something, but my craft room is way too cold and there’s just not enough light to see what I’m doing without a headlamp. So…it just hasn’t been worth it to try. I’m am catching up on some long overdue reading))
On a lighter note, the iced-over trees are absolutely beautiful. It’s like living in a fairytale forest. When the sun is out, they shine so brightly you need sunglasses just to look outside. The temperature is a little warmer today, and some of the ice is finally starting to let go. When it falls, it shatters like glass—beautiful to watch, as long as you’re safely inside.
Food Storage
Out of necessity, I did clean out the refrigerator. Every bit of food is now piled on a table on the back porch, and I’m afraid a good portion of it may end up in the trash—never mind what’s lurking in the freezer. That one may require emotional preparation.
Thankfully, we have friends with electricity, which means we’ve been able to shower and feel almost normal for a few glorious minutes. Those moments are not to be taken lightly.
Our main goals right now are simple: stay safe, stay inside, and try not to trip over the dog. He, by the way, seems to be handling all of this just fine.
My husband and I both feel good—maybe a little snippy at times—but we should survive this minor inconvenience. Although…there are moments when I have my doubts. If I hear one more long explanation about things like why crackers have holes in them, well…let’s just say patience is being tested.
Keep us in your prayers.
(Him especially.)
