Easy Homemade Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

chocolate-covered strawberries

Chocolate-covered strawberries—they sound fancy, but they’re actually one of the easiest treats to make. Just dip fresh strawberries in melted chocolate, and you’re done, right? Well, almost! While the process is simple, a few helpful tips can make it even easier and help you get the best results.

This post isn’t about making them perfect—because let’s be honest, a little drizzle here and there just adds to the charm. If you look at mine in the image, you’ll see lumps and bumps, but hey, there was leftover chocolate—so what else was I supposed to do but add some squiggles? 😆

Start with Fresh Strawberries

Wash them, drain on a paper towel, and pat dry thoroughly. Let them sit at room temperature before dipping. Drying is key—moisture can prevent the chocolate from sticking properly, and cold berries make the chocolate set too fast.

Why this step matters – Room temperature berries help the chocolate adhere smoothly and prevent clumps or streaks. Taking a few extra minutes for proper prep makes dipping much easier! 🍓🍫✨

Melt the Chocolate

I used chocolate almond bark, but you can also use chocolate chips. However, my last attempt at melting chocolate chips was a disaster (RIP, one cup of chocolate 😆), so I opted for almond bark this time. The amount you’ll need depends on how many strawberries you’re making, so it’s always good to have extra on hand. I started with about three blocks in a one-cup glass measuring cup.
For easy cleanup, I used a wooden skewer as a stir stick. Melt the chocolate in the microwave at 15-30 second intervals, stirring after each one, until just melted. Do not overheat, as chocolate can burn quickly. Thin the chocolate a bit by adding a teaspoon or two of coconut oil (which is solid at room temperature) or solid Crisco. This will help make dipping easier and give your strawberries a nice, glossy coating. 🍓🍫

Dip the Strawberries

Insert a wooden skewer into the top of each strawberry, gently pulling the leaves upward to keep them out of the chocolate. Dip the strawberry into the melted chocolate, making sure to coat it evenly. Let the excess chocolate drip off while slowly rotating the strawberry. To speed this up, you can gently tap the skewer against the side of the cup or bowl, but be careful—you don’t want the strawberry to fall off!
I like to break the skewers in half for easier handling. Once dipped, place the strawberry on waxed paper, parchment paper, or foil and let the chocolate harden completely before removing the skewer. It’s important to let the excess chocolate drip off before setting the strawberry down; otherwise, you’ll end up with a chocolate puddle around the base.
Wooden skewers work better for me than toothpicks, which can cause strawberries to slip off too easily. You can also dip the strawberries by holding them by the leaves, but this can get messy fast! 🍓🍫

What to Do with Leftover Chocolate

If you have any leftover chocolate, don’t let it go to waste! Simply pour it into a small zip-top bag, snip off a tiny corner, and drizzle it over your chocolate-covered strawberries for a decorative touch. If you have a steady hand and want to take your strawberries to the next level, try using melted white almond bark for a beautiful, professional look. I didn’t have any on hand, nor the skills, so I just used up the extra chocolate—but either way, it adds a delicious finishing touch! 🍓🍫
