What My Imagination Saw: Part 2
Welcome back to What My Imagination Saw! If you read the first post, you already know that my imagination has a habit of seeing something a little different while I’m riding the Tanglefoot Trail. Here are five more trail photos and the whimsical ideas they inspired.
Spa Day on the Tanglefoot Trail
When I took this photo, the cows were quietly grazing in a nearby pasture. Later, as I looked at the picture, my imagination wandered a little. Instead of another ordinary day in the field, I pictured one lucky cow enjoying a relaxing spa day. After all, standing in the hot Mississippi sun all day has to be hard work!
Visitors in the Forest
The animal friends reminded me of something straight out of a Disney movie. When you’re riding the Tanglefoot Trail, it often feels like you’re sharing it with the wildlife. Butterflies will flutter alongside you for a while, and squirrels and rabbits sometimes sit perfectly still until you’re almost on top of them, as if they’re watching you ride by. It’s easy to let your imagination take over and picture all those little woodland creatures gathering together to welcome a new friend.
Corn Dog Cattails
Every summer, I see cattails growing around ponds and ditches, and I’ve always thought they looked like giant corn dogs! I can’t be the only one! This time, I finally let my imagination have its way. Instead of cattails, I pictured a whole patch of freshly made corn dogs growing along the water’s edge, ready for the county fair.
Thinking of Food …
This tree had been blown down during last winter’s ice storm, and shelf fungi had begun growing along the bark. As I studied the photo later, I couldn’t help but see a stack of warm pancakes with butter melting down the middle. It’s amazing how ordinary things in nature can become something completely different once your imagination takes over.
Balloons in the Trees
Not every first impression is the one you want to share! After taking another look at these black walnuts, I decided they would make much better balloons than anything else. I think that was the right choice.

I have to admit, I think the cow enjoying her spa day is still my favorite from this collection. She makes me smile every time I see her! That’s the fun of looking at nature through the eyes of your imagination. A quiet pasture becomes a day at the spa, cattails become corn dogs, shelf fungi become pancakes, and black walnuts become colorful balloons. You never know what you’ll discover on the next ride down the Tanglefoot Trail.
