Who Has the Thimble?

me and my grandmother before church

Who has the thimble? Today during my low-impact cardio class workout, as we neared the end of the session, we started winding down with a praying hands gesture. This brought back memories of a game we used to play in Sunday School, “Who has the thimble?” Notice how I slipped that statement in there that I’m working out)))

Anyway, my grandmother taught the primary Sunday school class for many years. We lived in a community with a small church just down the road from our home. After the Sunday School lesson and a song or two, we would play “Who has the thimble.” There were no prizes, no snacks or treats, no participation stickers. We just played until someone knocked on the door to let us know it was time to leave our room and go back out into the congregation.

Don’t forget to pin this for later!

The Game

“Who Has the Thimble”

Kids would sit together, putting their hands in prayer position on their laps. Our teacher, who was also my grandmother, would join us, holding a metal sewing thimble in her hands. She’d go around the room, sliding her hands between ours and secretly passing the thimble to one of us. That person would hold onto it without showing anyone. After going around the room, we’d try to guess who had the thimble. When we figured it out, that person would stand up and pass it to someone else, and the game would continue. Some kids were better at hiding the thimble, making the game more exciting. The goal was to pass the thimble secretly, keeping the game fun and mysterious.

Activities

Our Sunday School class was mainly a Bible story and a few songs sung quietly. We sang Jesus Loves the Little Children and Jesus Loves Me. We didn’t have crafts except during Bible School in the summertime.

Did you ever play Who Has the Thimble? I would love to hear about your experiences)))
