Peanut butter balls with Rice Krispies…..hands down was the winner at our house! I know…..I just did a post with a peanut butter ball recipe but we enjoyed it so much that I had to make a second batch and experiment more! Here’s the original post image with the recipe.

Experiment

This time I wanted to try adding some Rice Krispies to the mixture. I wasn’t sure if they would stay crisp or not, so I only added them to a portion of the recipe. I doubled the original recipe this time too. So I probably took about a cup of the mixture and added about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of Rice Krispies. It was an experiment and I didn’t measure.

Matt, our 15-year-old grandson, was the taste tester and this is what he came up with.

Confectioners’ Sugar

I rolled some of the balls in confectioners’ (powdered) sugar. They looked pretty and tasted fine. But shortly after rolling them, the sugar just dissolved into the ball. This would happen even after rolling twice or three times.

The balls rolled in confectioners’ sugar tasted fine, but were just not as pretty as they could have been. The confectioners’ sugar would still work if you gave them a good dusting right before you served them. The image above was made with the balls coming right out of the refrigerator. All the peanut butter balls have to be stored in the refrigerator.

So the peanut butter balls rolled in confectioners’ sugar came in fourth place.

Well, you can’t go wrong with the original recipe and just roll the balls in chopped peanuts. I had used a combination of chopped peanuts and pecans on my first batch, but this one was just chopped peanuts. This option came in third with Matt.

The peanut butter ball with Rice Krispies was the winner! The Rice Krispies stayed nice and crisp. I rolled some in chocolate which was just a block of chocolate candy coating run through the food processor. Guess I was a bit lazy and really didn’t want to go the route of dipping them in melted chocolate.

The balls are soft and even if you put them in the refrigerator for a while I wasn’t sure how well they would hold up to dipping in warm melted chocolate.

The balls with Rice Krispies rolled in chocolate were Matt’s number one choice, and the balls with Rice Krispies rolled in peanuts, were his second.

Next Batch

This second batch is almost gone, so for the third batch, it will be all peanut butter balls with Rice Krispies. I’ll roll some in chocolate and some in chopped peanuts. The amount of Rice Krispies to add is still a guess until I make another batch. But probably I would add at least a cup to cup and a half to a double batch of the original recipe. You wouldn’t want to add so much that it prevents your balls from forming and sticking together well.

It’s nice to have a taste tester))). It’s fun to make things your grandchildren like isn’t it)))

Update!

April 2023: We have a new favorite! Matt suggested I try crushed potato chips in the mix….and it was a winner. Check it out!
