Peanut Butter Balls with Rice Krispies
If there’s one treat that stole the show at our house, it’s these Peanut Butter Balls with Rice Krispies! 🥜🍫 I know, I just shared a peanut butter ball recipe recently, but we loved them so much that I couldn’t resist making another batch—and getting a little creative with it.
Here’s the original post image along with the recipe. Give it a try, and let me know if they’re a hit in your home too! Click the image below to see the original recipe.

Experiment
This time, I decided to mix things up by adding some Rice Krispies to the recipe. I wasn’t sure if they’d keep their crunch, so I played it safe and only added them to part of the batch. I doubled the original recipe and used about a cup of the mixture, then stirred in roughly 1/2 to 3/4 cup of Rice Krispies. It was all experimental—so no precise measuring this time!
Matt, our grandson and official taste tester, actually came up with the idea to add the Rice Krispies. He gave it a try, and we couldn’t wait to see how it turned out!
Confectioners’ Sugar
I decided to roll some of the peanut butter balls in confectioners’ (powdered) sugar for a little extra flair. They looked pretty and tasted great initially, but there was one little hiccup—the sugar didn’t stay put! Shortly after rolling, it dissolved right into the ball, even when I tried rolling them two or three times. A fun idea, but not quite the lasting effect I hoped for!
The peanut butter balls rolled in confectioners’ sugar tasted just fine, but they didn’t look as pretty as I hoped. The sugar tended to dissolve into the surface, but it could still work if you gave them a fresh dusting right before serving. In the image above, the balls were photographed straight out of the refrigerator, where all the peanut butter balls need to be stored to keep them fresh and firm.
So the peanut butter balls rolled in confectioners’ sugar came in fourth place.
Peanut Butter Balls Rolled in Chopped Peanuts
Sometimes, you just can’t beat a classic! For this batch, I stuck to the original recipe and rolled the peanut butter balls in chopped peanuts. On my first batch, I had used a mix of chopped peanuts and pecans, but this time it was all peanuts. The result? Simple, nutty perfection!
This version ranked third with Matt. It’s a solid option that brings a satisfying crunch and that timeless peanut butter flavor.
Peanut Butter Balls with Rice Krispies – The Winner!
The clear favorite in our taste test was the peanut butter ball with Rice Krispies! The cereal stayed perfectly crisp, adding a delightful crunch to every bite. For a finishing touch, I rolled some of them in chocolate. Instead of melting the chocolate, I took a shortcut and ran a block of chocolate candy coating through the food processor—much easier than dipping!
The balls themselves are soft, and I wasn’t sure how well they’d hold up to dipping in warm melted chocolate, even after chilling in the refrigerator. This quick rolling method worked perfectly.
Matt’s verdict? The Rice Krispies balls rolled in chocolate took the top spot as his number one choice. Coming in second were the Rice Krispies balls rolled in peanuts—a crunchy, nutty twist that was another big hit!
This second batch has almost disappeared, so for the third round, it’s a unanimous decision—peanut butter balls with Rice Krispies all the way! I’ll plan to roll some in chocolate and others in chopped peanuts for variety.
The exact amount of Rice Krispies to add is still a bit of a guessing game. For a double batch of the original recipe, I’d probably use at least 1 to 1 ½ cups. The key is finding the perfect balance—just enough crunch without making the mixture too crumbly to form and hold together.
Having a taste tester makes it even more fun! 😊 There’s something so special about making treats your grandchildren love, isn’t there? It’s all about creating sweet memories—literally! ❤️
Update!
April 2023: We have a new favorite twist on peanut butter balls! Matt, our creative taste tester, suggested adding crushed potato chips to the mix—and it was a total winner! The salty crunch adds a whole new level of deliciousness.
If you haven’t tried this yet, you’re in for a treat. Check it out and let me know what you think! 😊!
