When there is a chill in the air, we crave chili! And Wendy’s chili is one of the best food values in town! It’s fairly inexpensive when you realize that the family-sized chili will serve 4-6 people. The container holds about 8 cups or so but I don’t know exactly how many ounces.
On football Saturdays or Sundays when the weather is cool enough to have a fire going on the back porch, chili is one of our go-to recipes for late lunch or supper. It’s not that hard to make, but honestly, it’s so much easier to run by Wendy’s and pick up a family-size container.
The family-size chili is only $9.99, in our town anyway. You can’t buy the ingredients to make homemade chili for that! Plus, they give you plenty of crackers, extra chili sauce if you want it hotter, and utensils. Heck, you don’t even have to ASK for napkins.
Of course, we’re not eating the chili in the car, but it is so frustrating to go through any fast-food place and leave without noticing they didn’t give you napkins, salt, ketchup, etc.
The family-size chili comes in a neat carry-out box with handles so there is no danger of spilling it in your car. That’s a plus! But directions say not to reheat the chili in the paper container. Spoon it up in your bowl first and then reheat it in the microwave as needed.
The Wendy’s chili has a mild taste. It has plenty of beef and two or three different kinds of beans. They give you extra packets of hot chili if you prefer a hotter taste.
So far, I like it just like it is. Now I do like to tweak it a bit with shredded sharp cheddar cheese and a dollop of sour cream.
Now typically when we have chili, we eat it with cornbread. But for a mid-afternoon late lunch, Wendy’s crackers are just fine. It’s great with a toasty grilled cheese too! I have a great recipe for Kentucky Cornbread this is perfect for chili too. Check it out!
By the way, my husband has been watching a lot of food videos and he saw one the other day about grilled cheese sandwiches. Instead of spreading butter on the outside of the bread, they spread a thin layer of mayonnaise. It works wonderfully and results in an evenly browned grilled cheese sandwich.
Check out Wendy’s chili next time you are in need of a chili fix. But let me warn you, if you’re looking for family-size chili, don’t wait until the dinner hour to pick it up. Go early! They do sell out. And it takes a couple of hours for them to prepare more. Learned that the hard way.🥺
