Goals and Resolutions 2022
Today is the first day of the new year! Yay!! We all know what that means….goals and resolutions. We’re always excited to decide what we’re going to shoot for in the year. And then we make plans….and so many times we fail! This year is going to be different)))
My heart tells me I have lots of goals….too many to list. But my head tells me to narrow them down. Make them realistic, reachable, and not out in dreamland.
Difference Between Goals and Resolutions
First, we need to clarify what the difference between goals and resolutions actually is. Well, what it is to me anyway.
A goal is an objective or the endpoint. For instance, losing weight will be at the top of my list, seems like it always is! Will I never ever reach my perfect weight?
Well, the first thing I need to do is not start out with my perfect weight as my goal!
My goal will be to lose 10 pounds. There, that’s objective, measurable, and doable.
My resolution (to reach that goal) will be the action, something I will or will not do to help me reach the goal.
Goal: Lose 10 Pounds
Resolutions
- Walk 30 min 3-4 times a week.
- Drink 2 bottles of water everyday.
- Limit desserts to once a week.
Let’s look at my resolutions for the weight loss goal.
Walking: Typically, I should walk every day, but I know I will let things get in my way, so I’m trying to be more realistic with 3-4 times a week. If I put daily walk as my resolutions, I would probably feel defeated the first time I missed. Walking 3-4 times a week gives me a little more flexibility.
Drinking Water: I should drink more water than 2 bottles a day! I know this, I’ve always known this but for some reason, it’s hard for me. So instead of making the resolution impossible, or not desirable to follow, I’ve reduced it to 2 bottles a day. Surely I can do that. And once I get in the habit of doing two bottles, it will be easier to increase the amount.
Limiting Desserts: This will be sort of a hard one, but necessary. My first thought was NO DESSERTS! But that’s not practical, so I went with once a week instead.
During the holidays we all fix those fantastic sweets and desserts and get accustomed to eating something every night. You don’t want to let it go to waste! But it’s time to get back to normal. One dessert a week I think I can manage. Maybe I’ll save it for when eating out with friends, or large family meals.
Now I know these aren’t the only things I can do to lose weight. We already do try to eat more vegetables, salads, grilled meats, and fewer carbs. But I don’t want to make a list so long that I sigh every time I look at it))
So, the hubby and I will have to resolve to leave off the goodies that we’ve been partaking in. He never has a weight problem, but he is diabetic so this is good for him too. Plus, if I don’t make a dessert….he sure won’t!
Business Goals
Even though I’m “retired” I still have what I call business goals. Here’s an example of my business goals and resolutions.
Goal: Promote my Blog
Resolutions
- Write a new blog post each week.
- Create a new craft post each month.
- Post a new video to YouTube each month.
Goal: Increase Social Media Presence
Resolutions
- Create a Facebook reel daily.
- Post to Facebook page 4 times a day.
- Post Pinterest Idea Pin daily.
Summing it Up
These are the only two goals and resolutions I’m going to focus on right now. It will be interesting to look back at the end of the year and see if I stuck to them! We’ll see)))
Have you found ways that help you stick to your resolutions? Please share, we would love to hear from you!
Happy New Year!
