Home to Roost: My Lost Rooster Returns (Sort of)
The rooster has finally come home to roost—well, sort of.
Thanks to Taalor at Trendy Tree and my niece Betty for providing the image, I now have a picture of my long-lost rooster, and it’s sitting proudly on my kitchen counter. It feels like the perfect spot, as if it was meant to be there all along. Oh, and in case you were wondering—Taalor is married to our oldest grandson! 🙂
Exclusive Signs from Trendy Tree
Taalor printed the rooster image on a square metal blank using the sublimation process, giving the rooster vibrant, lasting colors. The simple frame came from Amazon and it fit perfectly.

The Rooster
Looking at this picture makes me smile. It’s not the same as having the original metal rooster figurine my mom gave all of us sisters one Christmas, but somehow, this print fills that space in a meaningful way.
It brings back memories of her laugh and twinkle in her eye when we all teased her about the ‘tacky’ roosters We tried to pretend we’d find a place for them. I can’t help but wonder if she knew one day I’d be writing this—about how much I wish I hadn’t lost or tossed mine.
Now, as it sits on the counter, I realize it’s not just about the rooster itself but the story that comes with it. It’s a reminder of family, humor, and how even the smallest things can carry the most sentimental weight. Sometimes it takes years to appreciate those little moments—like how an old rooster, even in picture form, can bring a bit of comfort and a chuckle.
So here it is, home at last. A rooster in my kitchen))
Here’s the previous post about the rooster tale: Rooster in the Kitchen: A Tale of Good Luck and Lost Memories
Hello Jeannie,
Being a sentimental soul, I love this rooster story. My family teases me about some of the things that I display in my home that are “so dated” and it doesn’t bother me at all. They are reminders of my Momma and Daddy and even grandparents that bring me joy. I display some cross stitch or paintings that I did in my younger days that I cannot part with! As we get older our memories and those tangible things that stir memories of our long passed loved ones are priceless!
Now I think I will go see if I can find that old ceramic hen my aunt gave me she made in her ceramic class! 😉
I always enjoy reading your posts and thanks to you, we are enjoying boiled peanuts from the crockpot!! Keep them coming!
Thank you for following Janet, I appreciate it))) I too have some things of my grandparents that I can’t part with….and yes they are taking up space that I could probably use for something else…but)))) And I mentioned to my daughter that the pic of the rooster would be hers someday……she said….yay….lol
This is so exciting. Family is always there to deliver to us. So beautiful 🤩👏
