New Year’s Goals and Resolutions
Reflecting on 2022 to Set Goals for 2025
This is a post from 2022: Before diving into my goals and resolutions for 2025, I’m taking a moment to revisit the ones I recorded back in 2022. Looking back helps me see what I’ve accomplished, what still needs work, and how my priorities have changed. It’s a great way to set meaningful and achievable intentions for the year ahead!
Today is the first day of the new year! Yay!! We all know what that means….goals and resolutions. We’re always excited to decide what we’re going to shoot for in the year. And then we make plans….and so many times we fail! This year is going to be different)))
2025
Isn’t that what we always say every year? But here we are in 2025…..is everything the same? I hope not!
My heart tells me I have lots of goals….too many to list. But my head tells me to narrow them down. Make them realistic, reachable, and not out in dreamland.
2025
Still good advice)))
Difference Between Goals and Resolutions
Let’s start by clarifying the difference between goals and resolutions—or at least what they mean to me.
A goal is the endpoint, the objective you want to achieve. For example, losing weight is always at the top of my list (and yes, it seems to make an annual appearance!). Will I ever reach my perfect weight? Probably not if I keep setting that as the goal!
Instead, I need to be more realistic. My goal this year will be to lose 10 pounds. It’s specific, measurable, and achievable—something I can actually work toward.
A resolution, on the other hand, is the action I’ll take to reach that goal. It’s what I will—or won’t—do to help me get there. For instance, I might resolve to cut back on sugary snacks or to exercise three times a week. Resolutions are the habits and choices that pave the way to achieving your goals.
Goal: Lose 10 Pounds
2025
Well, it didn’t happen in 2022 but between 2023 and the present, I’ve lost 20 pounds! Yay me!
Resolutions
- Walk 30 min 3-4 times a week.
- Drink 2 bottles of water everyday.
- Limit desserts to once a week.
Let’s look at my resolutions for the weight loss goal.
Walking: Ideally, I’d love to walk every day, but I know life tends to get in the way. So, instead of setting myself up for frustration, I’m aiming for a more realistic goal of walking 3-4 times a week. If I resolved to walk daily, I’d likely feel defeated the first time I missed a day. By aiming for 3-4 times a week, I’m giving myself some flexibility while still staying on track with my goal.
Drinking Water: I know I should be drinking more than two bottles of water a day—I’ve always known this! But for some reason, it’s a habit I struggle with. So instead of setting an impossible or unappealing resolution, I’ve decided to start small with a goal of two bottles a day. Surely, I can stick to that! Once I build the habit, it’ll be much easier to gradually increase the amount over time.
Limiting Desserts: This one’s going to be a bit of a challenge, but it’s definitely necessary. At first, I thought about giving up desserts entirely—NO DESSERTS! But let’s be real, that’s just not practical. So instead, I’m aiming for a more manageable goal: enjoying dessert just once a week.
During the holidays, it’s so easy to indulge in all the fantastic sweets and desserts. It almost becomes a habit to have a little something every night—after all, you don’t want it to go to waste! But now it’s time to get back to normal. Limiting myself to one dessert a week feels doable, and I’ll likely save it for special occasions, like eating out with friends or big family meals.
Of course, I know desserts aren’t the only factor when it comes to losing weight. We already focus on eating more vegetables, salads, grilled meats, and cutting back on carbs. But I don’t want to make my goals so overwhelming that I feel defeated before I even start.
So, the hubby and I are resolving to skip the extra goodies we’ve been indulging in. He’s lucky not to have a weight problem, but since he’s diabetic, this will be a healthy change for him too. Plus, let’s be honest—if I don’t make a dessert, he’s definitely not going to! 😊
2025
Walking …I increased my efforts to lose weight in 2023 and started going to the Wellness Center almost five days a week. I’ve kept that up and love the results))
Water...I must have a gene that turns me off from drinking water! I do drink more than I used to, but still not enough. Flavored waters and loaded teas help.
Desserts …..well, for example, I finished off a caramel cake this year by eating a piece just about every night. That goal fell by the wayside right out of the gate!
Business Goals
Even though I’m “retired” I still have what I call business goals. Here’s an example of my business goals and resolutions.
Goal: Promote my Blog
Resolutions
- Write a new blog post each week.
- Create a new craft post each month.
- Post a new video to YouTube each month.
Goal: Increase Social Media Presence
Resolutions
- Create a Facebook reel daily.
- Post to Facebook page 4 times a day.
- Post Pinterest Idea Pin daily
2025
Blog… I have done okay on the blog goals I think. Blogging has been going okay and I usually do more than one post a week. The crafts have been more of a promotion of tutorials from Trendy Tree, but that’s okay too.
Social Media ..To be honest, I’m almost ready to throw in the towel on social media! It feels impossible to keep up with “all the things.” Facebook goals? I’ve let those go. Pinterest? That’s been more manageable, and I plan to keep focusing on it. But one thing is certain—I refuse to become a slave to social media. For me, it’s about prioritizing what works and staying true to my values.
Looking Ahead: My Goals for 2025
This year, I’m keeping my goals brief and focused. I plan to stick with my health and fitness routine while finding ways to incorporate more fresh vegetables into our meals. Another big goal? Traveling more! Whether it’s exploring new destinations or revisiting favorite spots, I’m excited to make this year one of adventure and discovery. This past year we did travel a bit and thoroughly enjoyed it!
When it comes to business goals, I have just one: I’d love for my blog to become eligible for monetization. Blogging isn’t free, after all! It would be great to cover the costs of maintaining the website and the tools needed to stay competitive.
You can help me reach this goal by sharing my posts on your social media or simply spreading the word. They say sharing is caring, and it truly makes a difference. Plus, word of mouth is always the best! 😊
Wishing You a Happy New Year!
