Unexpected Garden Surprises

Unexpected garden surprises have a way of showing up when you least expect them. I was checking on one of my spring planters the other day and noticed something odd—a pumpkin plant sprouting right in the middle of it. Not exactly what I had in mind for a flower container!

Last fall, I tucked a few mini pumpkins into my planters for a bit of seasonal color. I guess one of them left behind a seed, and now it’s growing like it belongs there. A pumpkin plant in a container definitely wasn’t on my spring gardening checklist.

I’ve decided to just leave it and see what happens. The funny thing is, we could never get pumpkins to grow when we lived out in the country. And now—one pops up on my back porch. Go figure!

Enjoying Life’s Little Surprises

It’s little moments like this that make gardening—and life—so enjoyable. You plan for one thing, and then unexpected garden surprises pop up and make you smile. I may not get a pumpkin out of it, but I’m definitely enjoying this little surprise and the reminder that sometimes, the best things grow when you’re not even trying.
