David’s Dirty Rice

Our son-in-law David is an amazing cook, and one of his signature dishes is dirty rice. It’s been a family favorite for years, with the grandchildren growing up on it and still requesting it often!
Dirty Rice Ingredients
- Long-grain white rice – 1 cup (not minute rice)
- Butter – 1/2 stick
- French onion soup – 1 can
- Beef consomme – 1 can
Instructions
This dirty rice recipe is incredibly simple to make, but it does require a little planning. It takes just over an hour to bake, so it’s not a last-minute dish. In today’s world of quick and easy meals, this recipe fits the bill—just remember to plan ahead!
Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly coat an oven-safe dish with cooking spray. Despite the spray, cleanup was a bit more work than expected, so next time, I’ll probably use a disposable foil pan for easier cleanup.
Mix Ingredients
Combine the uncooked rice (not instant rice) with the two cans of soup and pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Dot the top with butter, cover with a lid, and bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Looking back, I think the dish could have been ready after an hour. Check yours at the one-hour mark and decide if it needs a few more minutes.
Serve
We enjoyed our dirty rice with smoked sausage, and it was absolutely delicious! It also pairs perfectly with roast, chicken, pork chops, or ribs.
I didn’t add any extra salt, pepper, or seasonings, as the French onion soup and consommé already have plenty of salt. Be sure to taste before adding anything—it’s so easy to reach for the salt shaker out of habit, isn’t it?
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. I truly appreciate your visit! 😊
