Perfect? Not Perfect

This lemon protein smoothie tastes great! So why is it not perfect? Too many calories and carbs, for me.

Nutrition Facts

First off, nutritional facts were kind of hard to calculate for this smoothie because I used frozen lemonade concentrate. So, my numbers could be off a bit, but I would rather err on the plus side.

Calories 313

Carbs 29g

Protein 23g

These are not terrible figures, but I would rather see fewer calories and carbs. I like the fact that the recipe resulted in 23g of protein. And, if you drank this lemon protein smoothie as a meal replacement, it would not be so bad.

I have two lemon protein smoothies in the freezer now, and I won’t let them go to waste. I may have one for lunch tomorrow and see how it would work as a meal replacement.

What to Do Next?

I plan to use Zero Sugar Minute Maid Lemonade, freezing it in ice trays. Since I didn’t have the lemonade today, I used Simply Light Orange Juice instead. I poured one cup of the juice per ice tray and froze it. This afternoon, I removed the frozen orange juice cubes from the trays and stored them in a zip-lock bag. I plan to use one bag for a smoothie.

Frozen Orange Juice

Does freezing the juice sound like a lot of trouble to you? It really isn’t and having the flavor of the lemonade or orange juice added as ice cubes will make the smoothie colder and thicker versus pouring chilled juice into it.

Measuring the juice into one-cup portions before freezing will help maintain the accuracy of the nutritional facts.

So my mission tomorrow is to pick up some Zero Sugar Minutemaid Lemonade and freeze a few trays. I think it will taste even better than the frozen lemonade concentrate, we’ll see))

I’ll go ahead and post the lemon protein smoothie recipe I used this morning because it does taste good after all))
