It’s game day so this will be a quick post! Well, making this orange vanilla protein smoothie is quick too! Pull all your ingredients together and turn on the blender……so easy.

Preparation

The only thing you have to do, to be able to make this orange vanilla protein smoothie is to prepare the orange juice ahead of time. I freeze one-cup amounts of orange juice in an ice tray. Once frozen, store the cubes in the freezer in a zip lock bag.

For the frozen banana in this recipe, simply slice the banana, freeze the pieces, and store them in individual bags—one banana per bag for easy portioning.

Freezing the orange juice in advance helps create a thicker smoothie without the need for plain ice cubes, keeping the flavor rich and undiluted.

That’s It!

Oops!

Just a couple more tips before I go! Try freezing your orange (I used a mandarin) before zesting it. It’s much easier to zest when frozen. Once you’re done, just pop it back in the bag and store it in the freezer until you’ve completely “balded” it… lol!

I love topping my smoothies with a little whipped cream from a can and a sprinkle of orange zest. It adds just a few extra calories but gives such a sweet and tempting finishing touch.

The leftovers are covered with tinfoil (without the whipped cream) and stored in the freezer. Most of the time I take them right out of the freezer and just let them set for a few minutes and eat the smoothie with a spoon. In a rush, you can microwave for about 10 sec or so, but don’t overdo it!

Notes

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
Note: Prepare the orange juice ice cubes ahead of time by pouring one cup of juice into an ice tray. Freeze, then store the juice cubes in the freezer in a ziplock bag until ready to use. This eliminates the need for extra ice and helps maintain the orange flavor.
Topping is optional. I used whipped cream, a bit of orange zest as a little extra. The topping is not calculated in the nutritional facts, which are just estimates and not calculated by a nutritionist.
